Posts and Pages
Posts are small news items, such as release notes or other items for the “News & Events” feed. Posts have an author and a date, and should be categorized and tagged. Posts are often sorted in a time line fashion, with the newest on top. Single posts usually have no entry in the navigation, and may disappear after a certain age.
Pages are static pages on the web site. They are linked from the navigation or other pages, and may link to child pages. While pages have creation and modification dates, they are usually not arranged in a time line and don’t fall off the page above a certain age.
Roles
To facilitate contributions in a controlled and guided manner, the EPICS web site defines three roles for registered users.
Contributor
This is the default role for newly registered users. Contributors are able to contribute to the posts on the EPICS web site. They may:
- Create new posts (release announcements and items for the “News and Events” feed)
- Submit those new posts to the Review&Publish workflow
- Draft new revisions of their own published posts (“Copy of …”)
- Submit those drafts to the Review&Publish workflow
- Modify and re-submit any posts that were re-assigned to the author (under the Review&Publish workflow).
Author
After promotion to the Author role, users are allowed – in addition to the actions for a Contributor – to execute similar tasks for pages on the EPICS web site. They may:
- Create new pages (static pages in the site that can be navigated to)
- Submit those new pages to the Review&Publish workflow
- Draft new revisions of their own published pages (“Copy of …”)
- Submit those drafts to the Review&Publish workflow
- Modify and re-submit any pages that were re-assigned to the author (under the Review&Publish workflow).
Editor
Editors have full control over all web site content. They can freely create, copy, delete, publish and unpublish posts and pages (their own as well as those of others), and act as reviewers in the Review&Publish workflow.
