EPICS Codeathons and Documentathons provide concentrated time for EPICS code and documentation development to take place in an atmosphere where the main purpose is to do just that and not give or watch presentations. By taking developers out of their home environment they can be freed up from interruptions and local problems and allowed to concentrate on those specific EPICS-related tasks. A lab that is looking to both improve their EPICS expertise and to give something back to the collaboration might find hosting one of these an appropriate way to do both at the same time.
Codeathon
is a portmanteau of cod
e and Marathon
, the latter being the name of a town in Greece. The word should never be hyphenated (e.g. London Mar-a-thon
).
